Photography by We Do It For Love

We are lovin' Rebellious Bride Haidee's Boy Kastner Santos anti-white bridal gown! And wait 'till you see the back! You know that a gown has attitude when you can look at it from any angle and it's stirring up so many rebellious emotions inside of you. This look is so inspired. So refreshing. So charming. Equally charming is how the bride put the entire look together. And not everyone could have pulled off the shoes that Haidee paired it with. But with the tasteful eye of We Do It For Love, combined with the bride's effortless chicness, somehow it all worked out fantastically! Here's more!

Best wishes to Sherwin & Haidee! :)

Grace & Mark's Tonight, Tonight Save the Date Idea

Origami in Motion from ableslayer on Vimeo.

Inspired by the Smashing Pumpkins' Tonight, Tonight music video, Grace & Mark created a vintage romantic horror save the date concept that turned out quite spunky. What is interesting to note is the fact that even if they had Smashing Pumpkins as a peg in mind, they still created their own spin on it--the result of which was a unique interpretation of their own. What's more, this set goes to show how a concept can thrive and flourish into something beautiful when it's in the hands of tasteful talents. We've seen similar ideas that fell flat--but not this one though. Grace & Mark's save the date is definitely one for the books!

Cornetto Cupidity (Trailer) from Ben Boullier on Vimeo.

In the grander scheme of things, Rebellious Brides is just one aspect of our lives. The bulk of my work revolves around advertising campaigns, media, local TV, and being a think-tank. It's what I do...and I live in the world of ideas. And the same goes for RB Mica! So it's no surprise that a lot of the wedding inspirations that we have are not even wedding-related most of the time. And that is why we encourage you to do the same. With that being said, we'd love to share with you this wonderful campaign that is a wonderful source of ideas and of love. It's a Cornetto campaign that started in the UK and how they've asked teenagers from around the world to share love stories that were in turn visualized by creative greats. Here's some of them. Sit down, and take the time to watch. And may these short films move you to more giddy love..and more rebellious wedding ideas ;)

Pia + Shuni's Shabby Chic & Mask Fair Wedding

Photography by We Do It For Love

As I was looking through Pia and Shuni's wedding photos, I was immediately taken and impressed by how unique their wedding details were. They actually call their theme shabby chic--but as you will see in this feature, they managed to create such an uncommon interpretation to an otherwise common theme. The wedding felt fun, playful, whimsical, magical, imaginative, and nostalgic as if it were a children's book made to come alive. At the same time, the couple made the whole wedding festivities feel like a private mask fair with many interactive ideas and decorations. Just goes to show that there's still MORE to shabby chic than meets the eye and it's so much fun to create your own wedding rules!

Pia & Shuni definitely knew how to curate and edit old ideas from new ones and the result of which is a wedding that we've never seen before! This is definitely one of the most charming rebellious weddings we've seen so far this year :)

Congratulations Pia and Shuni! And may your marriage be as inspiring and magical as your wedding!

Something Borrowed...Any Why Not?

In the past two weeks, Simply Bridalwas kind enough to provide us with wonderful ideas on "something old", and "something new". This time around, we are covering the "something borrowed" aspect of it. Out of all the "somethings", this is probably the most unpopular one just because we tend to be proud when it comes to these things especially when we are too conscious of what other people might say if they knew that some wedding elements have been recycled. But we say why the hell not? Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is what we say!

"Though it is the brides wedding day, remember not to “demand” to borrow items for your loved ones, but rather ask politely to express the value it would signify to have their item incorporated into the special day." -- a gentle reminder from www.SimplyBridal.com

Done something similar to what was shared in the infographic? Tell us all about it! We'd love to feature! :)

Karla + Earl's Meteora Prenup

While answering an email from an RB reader who was seeking our recommendations for intimate wedding venues near Cavite, one of the suggestions that we made was Meteora Tagaytay. And while we were looking for reference links that we could provide to our reader, we stumbled upon this romantic prenup from Jayson and Jo Anne Arquiza that we couldn't resist sharing with you all. Here's another example of a "Classic w/ a Twist" type of prenup. Karla & Earl's prenup was a rebellious idea in a sense that it had the vibe of a love nest. But then with the tasteful hands of Jayson & Joanne plus the eye of RabbitHole Creatives, the look became quite timeless---evoking feelings of a getaway trip to the South of France. Here's more!

Meteora has been a popular spot for wedding preps or engagement shoots--not so much as a wedding venue itself. But it's actually perfect for intimate weddings! Find out more about Meteora HERE!

Anti-Reception Venue Suggestion: Rustic Mornings by Isabelo

Videography by FUGIWUGICOLLECTIVE

We are absolutely excited to share with you all another anti-reception venuethat will truly make your wedding much, much more meaningful and organically charming without the need for any styling and without the need to do it in a typical location.

Photography by Cy

I am a breakfast person at heart, and I'm gonna go ahead and boldly say that Rustic Mornings by Isabelo is the BEST breakfast/brunch experience in town.I say experience because it has all the ingredients for a restaurant to be in my best of books--and that is when the food is just as fantastic as the giddy ambiance you are paying for, and when value for money is so exceptional it seems beyond real.

This place is absolutely perfect for a rebellious wedding! The more "obvious" choice is to make this a prenup venue instead but I urge you to be more adventurous and choose it for the actual wedding.

The first time I set foot in this wonderland, it was love at first sight. I am in love with the rebellious details particularly the floor tiles, the wooden furniture, the nooks and crannies that are gonna surprise you and make you smile. But the food is even more exciting. I can literally have breakfast here every single day if I can. I am not gonna up-sell it any further. Best to experience it for yourself.

And when you do decide to go for an ocular, don't forget to add the following yummy dishes to your list: Herbed Turkey Ham Sandwich, Portobello and Arugula Cheese Omelet, the Bacon with French Toast and Herbed Hash browns, and then ask your server for other bestsellers.

Here are some additional photos I took from my hubb's Samsung Note :)

CLICK HERE to visit Rustic Morning's Site

As a last push, we'd like for you to do this if you get that giddy feeling about Rustic Mornings or any other anti-reception venue that you are eyeing for that matter---DON'T SECOND GUESS THAT HAPPY FEELING. GO FOR IT AND DON'T LET ANY NEGATIVE VIBES BRING YOU DOWN. Always remember that you cannot please everybody and unsolicited comments/advice are aplenty. But if you feel strongly about a venue, if it's a dream that you've always wanted, pursue it and follow your heart. Be bold. Be brave. BE REBELLIOUS!

The rain has passed and now it's time to move on with more positivity and a dose of good vibes. There's not much to say here other than the fact that Rachelle and Nino were determined not to make their prenup the 'usual' and more-than-the-usual it turned out to be indeed. Props to the team over at Quirky Creatives for making this set look cool as opposed to downright grimy--which could have easily happened with the wrong photographer. Enjoy!

Something Bluer Than Blue

Simple But Significant

$

ImagineNation Photography by Noel Salazar, Shayla Sanchez, and Richard To Beljot

Rebellious Bride Ria guest blogs here in RB to tell you about their simple wedding. Yes, the wedding seems rebelliously simple but read her write-up to learn a thing or two about restraining from becoming a "HOARDER BRIDE" -- a term we'd like to use for brides who have the tendency to hoard all the ideas they see, and have the tendency to get all kinds of suppliers just because they've come highly recommended. On a sidenote, this is one of the reasons why we DON'T recommend going to wedding expos because it's too overwhelming and you get the tendency to book suppliers impulsively. We'd also like to note that despite the wedding being seemingly simple, we think that Ria and TL's wedding invitations are one of the BEST ones we've seen so far for the brilliant reason that they refreshingly created details on the envelope flap itself and kept the actual invites as simple as possible.

Rebellious Bride Ria writes:

Being the only girl in my family and the first to get married at that, I did not have the slightest idea on what to do and where to start with the wedding planning. So, like many other giddy, newly-engaged, bride-to-be, I spent countless hours online looking for inspiration, tips, and resources for the most important day of my and my fiance’s life. With all the available data online for brides- and grooms-to-be, the wedding possibilities are endless that it becomes too easy to lose one’s individuality in the world of themes, colors, quirks, and other what-have-yous. I realized then that the real challenge in wedding planning is really restraint and the ability to stay true to one's personality. Fortunately, early on, I came across this slogan on Pinterest that said, “make it simple but significant.” That became my motto since and I used it as guide in all our wedding-related decisions and details.

1.     Wedding dress: by Tammy Tan, who was one of my best wedding “finds”. I’m really just a simple dresser and I never wanted my wedding dress, or my entire wedding, at that, to deviate from that “style” – my style. My thought bubble was, if I’m going to move around in a dress all day, with all eyes and cameras on me, that dress had better be very, very, comfortable. Tammy understood my body issues and knew exactly what to do with them.

2.     Invites: we had two sets of invites – one for the more traditional family members and close relatives and a less formal one for our friends and workmates. To make the formal invite “ours”, we DIYed envelope liners using one of our prenup photos. For the less formal postcard-inspired invites, we also used one of our prenup photos.

3.     Bridesmaids’ dresses: I trust my maid of honor’s and my bridesmaids’ taste in fashion so I chose infinity dresses for them and gave them the liberty to style and accessorize them as they please.

4.     Reception table Props: We are both lawyers so perhaps it doesn’t come as a surprise that we are drawn to John Grisham novels. Over the years, we have accumulated Grisham books, which we plan to put in the library of our very own place someday soon. For the mean time, we decided to put them on display on our reception.

5.     Giveaways: Ask any of my husband’s friends and they will go on and on about how he is such a sweet tooth, making the personalized candies perfect giveaways.

6. DIY Madlibs: Most of our common friends are either writers or lawyers. Either profession entails wit when it comes to choice of words. The madlibs provided for a fun diversion for guests while they waited for us at the reception venue. They also doubled as non-traditional guest books. To ensure guest participation, we gave away prizes for the best entries.

7. Music: My husband is a big rock music fan and I really, really wanted to reflect his personality by the music we played in the wedding. For my bridal march, my husband chose the first three minutes of Dream Theater's Best of Times; for our grand entrance at the reception, we played Skidrow's Remember Yesterday; and for our SDE, was Avenged Sevenfold's Warmness of the Soul. Most people who do not know us well find our music choices unconventional or even unromantic. But those who know my husband well enough said that our music choices made our wedding " very TL", just as my choice of dress was "so me."

Getting generic adjectives as wedding compliments i.e., beautiful, special, awesome, is too easy these days considering all the available data we have. For us, the best compliment we ever received was that the wedding was "us" --- that way, we are assured that our special day is not like any other.

As a blog, we know that we can easily become part of the viscous cycle of inadvertently causing brides to keep hoarding ideas for the wedding. But if you are empowered enough to know what YOU want, then you should be able to use blogs at your advantage. For instance, when I was doing my own wedding preps, I didn't read blogs to get ideas--in fact, I started looking through blogs AFTER we were done finalizing our wedding ideas. Actually, I visited wedding blogs/sites during the remaining months waiting for the big day just to keep the positivity and excitement going...but I was never ever tempted to keep adding new elements because I was confident enough that the way we planned our wedding was already unique on its own. Try this kind of exercise in your own wedding preps and see how you can have more peace of mind when you learn the art of restraint.

Happy wedding preps!

Rachelle and Lee's Tagaytay Highlands Metrofied Wedding

Photography by Metrophoto

I am a "Tagaytay Highlands Baby". What I mean to say is, Tagaytay Highlands felt like a second home to me for what seemed like fifteen years ('till my membership expired for being too old to be my dad's extension OUCH). New years, thanksgivings, holy weeks, hundreds of milestones, bonding sessions with loved ones will make this place forever special to me. What's my point? My point is, I know this place by heart and I've seen this place photographed many, many times. To make this place look new to me would be close to impossible. So when I saw Rachelle and Lee's 'Metrofied' Tagaytay Highlands Wedding, I was completely dumbfounded and downright impressed (as always) by how Metrophoto made such a seemingly popular venue feel exciting and new again. Of course, Oly is one half of it. Congratulations are in order to Rachelle and Lee for making their wedding so uniquely remarkable despite the weather.

As always, Oly wrote a thoughtful write-up about his couple in his blog. To read about his experiences and to view more photos, CLICK HERE.

Best wishes Rachelle & Lee! And may your marriage be as strong, brave, and sexy as your wedding!

Stephanie & Raymond's Fall-Inspired Wedding

There's something so utterly beautiful and comforting about fall. As I excitedly prep for my upcoming Oregon trip, I am definitely in a summer-to-fall-state-of-mind. When I saw Raymond & Stephanie's wedding, I knew it had to be in the blog because we rarely have fall-inspired wedding themes in our neck of the woods! And why not? Just because we technically don't have autumn doesn't mean we can't be inspired by it. We are loving the colors and the emotions of this wedding. In the advertising world, there's a technique called "creative alchemy" and that's when you are bold and twisted enough to combine two things that don't seem to work together so you can form a totally new brilliant idea.  Fall + Native Filipiniana = R+S's Rebellious Wedding. Kudos to the rebellious couple for creating this 1+1=3 rarity!

Congratulations Stephanie and Raymond! And may your marriage be as delightfully romantic as your wedding!

Bride in Pink

A pink gown, a magnificent glass church, a "first look" pictorial before the ceremony and
a cartwheeling bride = Boots & Jeff's "happy happy joy joy" wedding.
Boots & Jeff had a very relaxed wedding preparation by booking the whole Le Blanc resort for family & friends.
They decided to do this pictorial an hour or so before going to church.

We asked Boots to tell us all about their big day and she gamely told us about all these awesome details:

What's the theme of our wedding, you ask? Everything and everyone we love! :) - hiking, butterflies, pastel colors, gymnastics, Peanuts (not the edible kind but Charlie Brown and his gang), our dog named Belle, happy songs, fireworks, and of course, our family and friends!

No one seemed to be in a hurry. Or stressed. What a CHILL wedding!
Our wedding was held on July 6, 2013 in Antipolo, the town where I grew up. While scouting for a venue, we wanted an outdoor theme. Eight months before the wedding, we discovered Parish of Immaculate Heart of Mary in Hinulugan Taktak Road. I have been going to the Philippines every year to visit but it was the first time that I saw the newly built church that was shaped like a dome with glass ceiling surrounded by greenery. That was the end of our search. I imagined myself walking through an arch filled with flowers, white branches lined up, and petals scattered on the aisle as I meet my parents and Jeff at the altar. And that was exactly what happened!

This is one breathtakingly beautiful church.
Photography by George Padua

One of the first things we did was come up with an invitation concept. We all know the concept of "taking the plunge" to metaphorically mean getting married. We thought, why don't we do it? Literally. The spot was Turtle Cove, one of the popular cliff jump spots on Guam. The photographer was my brother, Bobby Bonifacio. "Let's make our invitation look like a postcard!" My graphic artist brother, Benji Bonifacio, did the layout that included the following elements - the picture of our cliff jump, aqua green and coral colors, a volkswagen, our hiking shoes, a seal with our silhouettes, butterflies, our entourage, and a map! It turned out exactly how we envisioned it. For our "pre-nuptial" pictures, we used existing hiking pictures (since we met while hiking on Guam after all) as well as pictures taken by Bobby and our friends Jet Apostol, Sofia Oropesa, and Tin Alam before, during, and after our cliff jump, on the beach, and in our new house that was still under construction.

Now, what do we do with our dance? Despite dancing not being one of our brag worthy skills (although Jeff can argue about that at length), we chose "Linus and Lucy" from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" for our couple's first dance music. Do we do the Roger Rabbit? The Running Man? Do we approach a dance instructor? The answer is none of the above. We approached my gymnastics coaches, Melinda Heath and Ric Heath from Island Twisters Guam (with input from assistant coach Jushua Mayo) to choreograph our dance!  The result - a dance with sachets, lifts, a back walkover, a cartwheel, and a flip!

We also had souvenirs prepared by my sister Rochelle Prado. She placed colorful pebble shaped chocolates in small mason jars. I drew caricatures of me, Jeff, and Belle for the label. Our gifts for the entourage were black wayfarer shades for adults and pixelated wayfarer shades for kids (my niece, Meg, and nephews, Diego and Julian among them) from amazon.com. Since I enjoy assembling puzzles, we purchased white blank puzzle pieces (with numbers at the back) from etsy.com for our guests to sign on and for us to later assemble and display in our living room!

After I told my friend, Karmeli Love Kintanar, that I wanted tulle for the material of my dress, she thought a blush gown would suit me. I was not meant to be the "bride all dressed in white". On the other hand, I thought it turned out dreamy! To make the dress convenient for our "Linus and Lucy" dance, she made the bottom a detachable long skirt that could be removed with in inner knee length layer that was perfect for twirling and doing a cartwheel.

Meanwhile, Jeff's barong was a two-toned with hand painted leaves designed by Randolf Tuazon.

We rented out Le Blanc in Antipolo so we could have a place to stay the night before the wedding as well as on the wedding night right after the wedding party. We stayed there with our families, friends from Guam as well different parts of the US. It was perfect for entertaining a small number of guests with 8 rooms, pristine white structures, white gardens, swimming pool, indoor basketball court, pool table, and an impressive Presidential/ Bridal Suite among others.

Photo from http://www.leblanc.com.ph/gallery.html

On the morning of our wedding, our suppliers showed up one by one. Mica Tuaño-Fuentes was the make up artist and her mom, Grace Tuano was the hair stylist for me, Jeff, my mom, my sister, my bridesmaid, and my flower girl. Our photographer, George Padua (also my former co-worker) and his team arrived almost at the same time as our videographer, Threelogy Video, headed by CJ Lagman. Patti Encarnacion brought my bouquet and the flowers for the entourage. She provided the beautiful decorations in the church as well as the reception area. Prior to heading to the church, Jeff and I walked through different areas of Le Blanc such as the play ground and swimming pool while the photographers and videographers were shooting away.

Our wedding reception followed. It was held in La Huerta Estates, a few minutes from Hinulugan Taktak Road. The estate is located on a hill in Antipolo with a lush landscape, a Spanish inspired architecture with a stairway leading to the main function area that is surrounded with Palm Trees.

Before showing the wedding highlights, my brother, Bobby, and our friend, Jett Apostol, showed a surprise video that they prepared with Jeff's family and our friends in Guam who were not able to make it to our wedding!

The exclamation point to end our wedding was the amazing fireworks that lit the sky with Katy Perry's Fireworks in the background. Thank you again for the gift of fireworks, Bobby!

My parents have been very helpful from day 1 so we'd like to thank them for all their love and support. Thank you to my dad for leading us in prayer during the reception and for the touching and beautiful messages from our matron of honor, Rochelle Prado and Best Man, Marky Lambrecht. Despite not being physically present, Jeff's parents never failed to express how happy they are for us.

In the end, it was not just our wedding but a wedding of people who have become and will continue to be a important part of our lives. It was a plus to have made new friends along the way. Several people have told us that however the day turns out, just remember to have fun and enjoy the moment. We did and it turned out to be a very happy start of our married life!

Awwww :) Such a positive and inspiring way to start a marriage.
Thank you for sharing this with us, Jeff & Boots!

Lavonne & Clark's Wedding Style

When I scanned through Lavonne & Clark's wedding photos, I instantly knew I'd blog about their style as a couple. So when I read Oly's write-up about them (I usually look at the photos first before reading the write-ups so I won't be influenced by it), I was so amused to find that Oly also talked about Lavonne & Clark's style as well! Oly actually nailed it:

"I’m a fan of great color combinations and I love the deep and muted brown colors throughout this wedding. I appreciate the taste that Lavonne and Clark have as it was obvious in a lot of the details and choices they made for their wedding. It’s not bad too that they are evidently head-over-heels in-love with each other."

Take a bite from Lavonne & Clark's deliciously rich wedding style...

As a treat, check out their heartwarming proposal!

Congratulations Lavonne & Clark! And may your marriage be filled with so much sweetness as your proposal, and so much richness as your delicious wedding style.
